Final Piece

Above is my final piece. I have change my front cover and double page spreads a lot since my draft. My front cover now has a slightly different colour scheme from my original draft. I have also removed the red lines and the gradient from the background. Instead I have a slight light behind the image drawing more attention to my cover model as she is considered to be an iconic star by my audience. Some sell lines have been deleted and they're now all down one side of the page. However I have kept the sell line of thefree poster the same at the bottom as well as the 'guitar pick' competition plug.
My contents has stayed around the same, I have just added article information under the titles and have edited my subscription box so that now it contains an editors note.
As for my double page spreads I have added a profile for my artist and have changed the opacity of the photo so that it is clearer. I have also changed the three pictures at the bottom of the page. For my second double page spread I have changed the font and colour of the text so that it doesn't appear to be so merged together as before my font was impact and at times it is hard to read. I changed the colour so that it can be seen over the image behind it. As my text was now darker I could change the opacity of the image to make the slightly darker too. I also made an extra double page spread. This contains the bulk of my article as well as feature images at the top and bottom of the page.

Audience Feedback

Feedback for Magazine


I asked people who fit into my target audience to comment on my magazine so far so that I knew what I needed to change. I got some useful constructive criticism which has now allowed me to change aspects of my page. My contents page got the most positive feedback which meant that I changed that the least. However my front cover and double page spreads need to be edited as sometimes the text of images aren't has clear or effective as they could be. I found getting audience feedback useful as I need to get my magazine looking as professional as possible and I also need it to a appeal to my target audience. Therefore my getting this feedback I can get pointed in the right direction for what my audience do want.

Front Cover Draft

This is my first draft for my front cover.
It conforms to the layout of my sketches as well as my intended colour scheme. I have been consistent with the genre of music which my magazine conforms to by using iconic bands in my sell lines. I used the font 'impact' for my main sell line as I wanted it to be the most eyecatching piece of text on the page; even more so than my magazine name as I'm acknowledging that my audience will already know what it's called if they're regular buyers of my magazine. By adding a sell line of a free poster is a major selling point as it conforms to the uses and gratifications theory as people like receiving free stuff.

Double Page Spreads

I have chosen to design three double page spreads. The first is a introductory page which willl have a full bleed image of my artist on the left hand side. Whilst on the right there will be a small introductory paragraph. My title is 'Mia on Music' as my artists name is 'Mia Shaw' and the aliterative title is catchy and will hopefully be memorable for the audience. The topic of the article is entertainment as well as informative.      

My second page has a pull quote on the left hand side and a picture below it. The main article then starts on the right and will flow in to a interview. The title of this page is 'Shaw'ly Not. This is a play on words of my artists name again to help the audience remember her and to give a quirky side to the article.







My last page as just a basic layout as this will hold the bulk of the article. There are spaces for pictures, but most of the information will be on this page. That is why it doesn't have a title as it's just a follow on.

Contents Page Design

This is my Contents Page design. I have used a similar layout to NME as it seemed suitable. However now that I have started to make my contents page in adobe photoshop I have made some changes as it seemed to suit better.

Front Cover Draft

This is my front cover draft for my magazine. This will be a guide for when I come to making my magazine. I have included sell lines and a artist time line. I haven't annotated the draft with a colour scheme as I'm not completely sure which house style I want to go for yet.

Name Designs

Preliminary Task

The first task I started in order to make my magazine was a preliminary piece of work. This is basically a draft version of a simpler magazine. This means I am better prepared to create a magazine when I come to do it later on in the year.
Firstly I had to think of a name for my magazine and it had to be relevant to 'Haydon School' as the criteria was school related. Therefore the name I picked was 'Haydon At Home' as I thought it was a friendly name and the alliterative title was quite catchy.

After I'd thought of a name I started to sketch out my idea of a front page and a contents. I wanted my magazine to cover all areas of the school from sport, to teachers and exam results. My front cover image is of a boy spinning a basketball on his finger looking straight at the camera, this is biggest story in my magazine. I added a few plugs around the side of the picture.

After I'd designed my front cover, I took the pictures I'd need for my front cover.

Once I'd taken my front cover pictures I then designed my

contents page in a easy to read layout splitting the pictures and page numbers to give variety. Once I'd designed my contents page, I took more pictures that were suitable for it to highlight the different features within my magazine.

I'd designed my magazine so then I made it on photoshop. I tried to keep it as similar to my desings as possible however when I'd done it I decided that I didn't like my contents layout as much as I thought I would originally. Therefore I changed where the pictures and texts would be. My front cover however is faily similar to my design. I tried to keep within the school colour scheme of blue and yellow as they're relevant colours to the school. The text is bold and easy to read.  My image on the front cover is a full bleed image of a mid-close up of a boy spinning a basketball on his finger. This represents the main story within my magazine.
